In order to use the washing machine and dryer, be sure to 1) Turn on the power, 2) open the water, and 3) Turn on the washing machine. You can now proceed with your laundry.

Waste disposal and recycling
The trash containers are located across the street. Use the GREY container for the regular trash.
In Zürich, it is required to purchase official bin bags. You will find some in the apartment (the bags are white or blue). If you stay for a longer time, you can purchase them in all supermarkets (they are usually not out on the shelves so make sure to ask at the cashier's desk for "Gebührensäcke").
These bags are NOT for recyclables. Compost, PET bottles, glass, cardboard, paper, aluminum cans, batteries, and other toxic waste are disposed of separately from household garbage.
Compost can be put in the GREEN container outside. Please do not use any plastic bags.
Recycling
Glass and aluminum need to be separated and then deposited at local recycling points.
The closest recycling point to the flat is at Rautistrasse 345, 8048 Zürich.
Plastic bottles (PET) can be dropped off in the large containers in front or inside of supermarkets (Migros or Denner).
Cardboard and paper is picked up for free in front of your house Friday every two weeks (see exact dates here). Cardboard must be folded correctly:
