Parking
If you stay for a just few nights you can park in the "blue" parking spots (marked yellow on the map) but you require a blue parking disc (see picture). Set the time on the disk clock to the nearest forthcoming half-hour mark and you have 60 minutes of parking after this set time. For example, if you arrive at 09:23, you set the clock for 09:30 and you can park until 10:30.
Between 17:31-19:00, you can set the disk for the next half hour and park until 8 AM on the next day.
Between 19:00-08:00, if you leave by 8 AM, you don't need to display the disc.
Parking discs can be bought at any gas station, police station, or car accessories shop.
On Sunday and public holidays: From Saturday 7 PM until Monday 8 AM parking in the blue zone is free.
If you stay longer we advise buying a daily permit for the "blue parking" (Tagesbewilligung) on the following website:
Online-Shop Dienstabteilung Verkehr (stadt-zuerich.ch). YOU WILL THEN NEED TO PRINT IT AND PUT IT ON DISPLAY IN THE CAR. PLEASE NOTE, THAT THERE IS NO PRINTER AT THE FLAT, SO YOU WILL HAVE TO PRINT THE PAPER BEFORE YOU ARRIVE AT THE FLAT.
The cost is 15.- CHF per day.

Laundry
The laundry room is located in the basement of the house. You can use the laundry room for free, but only between 6 PM and 9 AM. There is a washer, a dryer, and a washer/dryer combined.
Please read the following instructions carefully:
Washing machine: this machine allows a maximum of 2 duvet covers and 2 fitted sheets per machine/wash cycle. If more are loaded, the programme is cancelled and the laundry remains soaking wet.
Dryer: The filter mat and filter screen must be cleaned after EVERY use. If this is not done, no more air will get through. There is a legend in the laundry room that explains picture by picture how to clean them. If the laundry is still very wet or you put too much in the tumble dryer at once, it won't work either. Less is more. Do not overload the machine!
Waste disposal and recycling
The trash container is located behind the house and it's the GREY one (see picture below).
In Zürich, it is required to purchase official bin bags. You will find some in the apartment (they are blue). If you stay for a longer time, you can purchase them in all supermarkets (they are usually not out on the shelves so make sure to ask at the cashier's desk for "Gebührensäcke").
These bags are NOT for recyclables. Compost, PET bottles, glass, cardboard, paper, aluminum cans, batteries, and other toxic waste are disposed of separately from household garbage.
Compost can be put in the GREEN container next to the grey one. Please do not use any plastic bags.
Recycling
Glass and aluminum need to be separated and then deposited at local recycling points.
The closest recycling point to the flat is at Bertastrasse 26, 8003 Zürich (5 min. walking distance from the apartment)
Plastic bottles (PET) can be dropped off in the large containers in front or inside supermarkets (Migros or Coop).
Cardboard and paper are picked up for free in front of your house on Tuesday every two weeks (see exact dates here). Cardboard and paper must be folded correctly:
